Brief description / remarks:
‘Deepawali’ – a festival of light and happiness, symbolizes the victory of good over evil, brightness over darkness and truth over falseness. This festival helps people to find moments of joy and happiness amongst their jam pack daily routine. The most traditional and closer to heart way to celebrate this festival is by lighting diyas and candles. Enlighting this festival through diyas symbolizes the supremacy and consequence of brightness over darkness.
In a way of giving a warm welcome to this festival, Department of Education, Mandsaur University had organized a competition of ‘Diya and thali Decoration’ on 15th October, 2022. A total of 20 students had participated in this activity. Among them 11 students were from I semester and 9 students were from III semester. Students had used their creative ideas for beautiful and colorful decoration of both diya and Thali, symbolizing light and prosperity which were complimenting each other. The students have painted,decorated and made enticing diyas and thali as a part of Deepawali celebration. They experienced the effort involved in decorating diya- thali and also its significance in this festival of light and joy.
Evaluation of their cerative ideas was a tough task for the judges. To evaluate the efforts of students Ms Teena Yadav, Faculty of Life Sciences and Ms Shalini, HOD, Department of fashion, were invited for judgment. In this competition Ms Laxita Jhala from III semester took the winning position and Ms Priyanshi Dhangarh from I semester was the runner up.
This competition was organized under the guidance of Mr Harish Kumar Verma, Assistant professor, Mandsaur University, Mandsaur. Students were positively motivated by Dr. Aradhna Sethi, HOD, Department of Education, Mandsaur University, Mandsaur.

Outcome :
The students got aware of the culture and traditions of this specific festival called “Deepawali”. They acquired knowledge on the importance of making diyas and lightening all over to celebrate the victory of Lord Rama. They learnt how to make diyas more enticing and attractive by painting and colouring.
No. of participants:
Total 30 students were enrolled for this competition but due to some last minute hindrances 20 students were able to participate in this activity.
